You're right! An animal can never turn into another animal. For example, a land dwelling mammal can't turn into a sea dwelling mammal. However, over time, the progeny of a land dwelling mammal can evolve into sea dwelling mammals. Check out the evolution of the whale.

Quote:The way i understand evolution is that out of nothing some kind of single celled organisim sprang

Then you don't understand evolution. What you are referring to here is abiogenesis. Evolution says nothing about how life came about. It only deals with what happened once life sprang up.

Quote: then from that we get monkeys and they turned into people.

Wrong again. People did not evolve from monkeys. We have a common ancestor.

Quote:If that is true wouldnt it be possible to take something that already functions such as a wristwatch and send it off to a distant planet that resembles the conditions here on earth and have some kind of mars rover put it in the dirt and over millions of years shouldnt it turn into something?

This is such a stupid straw man that I can't believe someone would even conceive of it. But I did have some idiots knock on my door one day and argue with me about evolution. They asked if I would expect my car to evolve into something else after a couple of million years. I guess you guys are reading from the same playbook.

Quote:No it will still be a wristwatch in the dirt. The watch is made up of inanimate matter

Correct!A watch cannot possibly evolve into anything because it is not alive and it can't reproduce!

Quote:just like the matter that single celled organisms supposedly evolved from

And we're back to mixing up evolution with abiogenesis.

Quote:but the watch already has moving working parts

THAT AREN'T ALIVE!

Yeesh!

Quote:it just seems very unlikely that life could just come from unorganic matter floating around in the water or soil.

You know what seems "very unlikely"? The notion that an invisible man living in the sky created the universe and everything in it.

Quote:Can somebody help me to understand this point of view please?

Well, I just tried, but somehow I doubt it will sink in.

Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?
