We had a very good gun, the B.A.R. (Browning Automatic Rifle) but it was so good the brass were afraid the Germans would capture one and copy it.
After the war the Feds used BARs to counter mobsters with Thompsons. Better range and accuracy. The mobsters didn't practice enough to counter the barrel climb, so the mostly shot at the Moon.
