Was I close?
Me neither. As far as I know my computer just three states: okay; slow; and broke. If it's slow give it a power nap. If it's broke get it fixed. And when it's okay just use it. That's about all I know about it.
To translate to old-fogey speak: his hard drive (where he stores his files) was crapping out, so the problem resolved itself after he copied everything over to his new, bigger storage space.
He's glad it wasn't his Solid State Drive (SSD, a new, better form of storage for a computer) because he probably stores his computer's Operating System (the thing that lets it run) on there, so that breaking would've been a massive pain in the arse. SSD's are often used as a sort of secondary storage in tandem with the more old-fashioned Hard Drives. SSD's generally store less, but are much faster, which makes them ideal for making the PC start up quicker.
