The Newly Departed thread: announcements (departures)

It was my old 2T media drive that was crapping out. I just copied everything to the 3T drives I already had installed and never had to do more than re-start to solve the issue. Copying took forever though, mostly because it was coming off a dying drive.

Soooooo glad it wasn't the SSD!

I have no idea what any of  that means but YIPPY SKIPPY.

Was I close?

Me neither.  As far as I know my computer just has three states: okay; slow; and broke.  If it's slow give it a power nap.  If it's broke get it fixed.  And when it's okay just use it.  That's about all I know about it.

To translate to old-fogey speak: his hard drive (where he stores his files) was crapping out, so the problem resolved itself after he copied everything over to his new, bigger storage space.
He's glad it wasn't his Solid State Drive (SSD, a new, better form of storage for a computer) because he probably stores his computer's Operating System (the thing that lets it run) on there, so that breaking would've been a massive pain in the arse. SSD's are often used as a sort of secondary storage in tandem with the more old-fashioned Hard Drives. SSD's generally store less, but are much faster, which makes them ideal for making the PC start up quicker.

Thanks, to me SSD only stands for Social Security Disability.

Indeed. Windows and a few programs that i need to start quuckly are installed on the SSD. The rest of the programs and non-media files are on one of the 3T spinny drives. Media files (all my books, movies and music) are on the second 3T drive. All the stuff on the 3T drives were on the single 2T (less than 50G remaining free) since I was going to do a mirrored RAID with the two 3T drives before moving them. Necessity has out done that.

Been there done that. Suffice to say Real life takes precedence over trying to keep this madhouse afloat.

Unfortunately not.

Jenny will be missed from the staff and the forum, until she returns.
