"Dems" is short for Democrat, meaning in this instance Clinton or Sanders. So far as I know, neither Sanders nor Clinton have contested any Republican primary against Kasich.

There's more than a splinter of truth to this, but I think also that his negatives would be far less than those of either Cruz or Trump.
