If the person waging the fight is caring for their people ; i.e. nationalists, I have to agree. Most if if not all wars for expansions took place for that certain cause deep within, but there are wars that simply happened for reasons beyond that.

Take the Ummayad invasion of Spain, I can't see what Spain had but the Levant haden't in terms of resources; I'm sure historians can find more examples. Sometimes it's just a certain reason that needs satisfaction as it seems; like satisfying the psychological need people have to appear stronger.

Spain wasn't attacked by people of the Levant, but by people of North Africa.
