What makes people bring up the race aspect more is when comparisons are made with crimes that are nothing to do with race (just like LP did). It does nothing but downplay the fact this is a racially motivated crime and it's the whole reason 'right wingers' keep throwing it out there that it is indeed a racist crime. Y'see, when these crimes are committed and it's the other way round, different behaviour is displayed when people talk about it, generally. No one would be saying it's the same as any other crime. We'd all be banging on about how heinous it is due to the fact it's a racist attack. What I've seen in this thread (and do correct me if I'm wrong), is a few people simply suggesting that this crime is the exact same as any other kidnapping/torture crime. Completely ignoring the political and racial motivations, or at the very least trying to downplay them.
That rustles my jimmies.
In no other instance would I expect people to say the motivations don't matter or are irrelevant. When someone flies a plane into a skyscraper we don't go 'motivations don't matter tho' do we?
I appreciate that people will say "stop making a political point" over it. I don't think anyone is, pointing out the double standard isn't using this horrific incident as a political tool. It's just being real about it.
