It isn't a matter of someone not thinking like you. It is your logic that mentally screws you up, not your mental health. Belief in the supernatural is an unfortunate side affect of antiquity that most people simply pass down to their kids, most people adapt the faith of their parents and most keep it their entire lives.
You are not mentally ill in the context we are afraid you are going to go on a killing spree. You do mentally box yourself in because of someone introducing you to the concept you ended up buying into. When someone confronts you with the flaws in your logic, you mentally resort to defending it because you have conditioned yourself to defend it, not prove it. There is a difference between defending something with facts, and testing and falsification as a form of quality control, and what you did, which was buying first.
Most people in the world are still stuck in the past and in that context living by antiquated claims from or viewpoint IS mentally screwing oneself out of the opportunity of opening their eyes to reality.
You'd rightfully look at the theocracies of the middle east, or worship of the state like North Korea and think to yourself, "I wish they had the opportunity to see what I see". You'd rightfully like I do look at Iran or Saudi Arabia and say, "They have a messed up mentality".
Well we think the same of you, not your empathy, but your thought process. Liberals and conservatives still have a mentality of circling the wagon and also do not understand under the same labels, even Catholics have conservatives, so do Jews and so do Muslims.
Your logic is what he is talking about, not your evolutionary empathy.
I appreciate the kind words, my friend.
However, I must still disagree that anyone is mentally screwed up (in any sense of the word) for being either atheist or theist, conservative or liberal, etc, simply bc you have a different opinion and cant fathom how they came to their conclussions. Thinking otherwise is the epitome of narrow mindedness and bigotry.

LOL that must be it.
Your kindness is not the issue, where you think your morality is coming from IS the issue, and yes, I do think it is nuts to base your life on the writings of antiquity. I am certainly far more happy with liberal theists than conservative theists, but the books are the same book for both left and right under the same umbrella label in any religion, and even under the same sub sect.
A liberal black Obama voting Baptist is still reading the same book as a white Tea party Baptist, just like Malala as empathetic as she is is still reading the same old Koran as Bin Laden. The only difference is the interpretation of the same book with the same words.
Yes, I do think it is crazy, even for my well intended liberal friends, to buy into old writing of any label. Not from a empathy context, but simply put, that was then and this is now.
I love my mom, but no, even as much as I love her, when she eats a communion, all I can think is "do you really think a wafer has magic powers"? Yes I do question that logic. it would be no different to me if she every day kept repeating "The Cubs won the Superbowl". Nice is not the issue, the logic is, and yes I do think it is crazy to buy into old bronze age mythology or any religion of antiquity worldwide, for the same reason you'd rightfully find it crazy if someone started a religion based on the Harry Potter character.
Nobody here that has known you for as long as we have thinks you are as an individual are dangerous, but that does not make your logic sound or your book credible. And that does not change that there are even conservative Catholics who read the same bible you do to justify sexism and anti LGBT.
