Everyone hits on Amber when we're together. I like to think it's because she's a natural flirt, and I'm shit at it, and not that she's hotter than me, though she's pretty damn hot (I just recently got over my crush on her).
Without getting too much into what the definition of "is" is, a la Bill Clinton, I think one should be very careful with the concept of "hotter than". Beauty is subjective to the individual, but the standard concept of beauty is cultural. I can see where, to a standard person who simply accepts the Cosmo version, and thus prefers the standard definition, she would be considered higher on that scale, but I personally am not drawn to the "standard" nearly as much, and I find you significantly more attractive, per my set of criteria.
So since I think you're much cuter, I'd hit on you and not on her, in other words. (Assuming I was single, of course.)
I can't speak for anyone else, and I think comparing ourselves to an arbitrary standard, even if the majority of people prefer that cultural standard is ridiculous. I spoke for a while with a Russian friend of mine who was a bit distraught when she came to the United States, in the mid-90s, because in Russia she was considered unattractive because of her thin build. Here in America, it was The Standard, and the guys went crazy for her... which actually upset and frightened her a bit, because she wasn't accustomed to it.
My point is, who cares if she usually gets hit on? Any guy with real taste would hit on you!
Edited to Add: To put it another way, we tend to think of the standard of beauty as something we have failed to live up to, and thus are envious of those who more-closely meet this arbitrary standard (there are some standards of beauty that seem to be a biological constant, such as symmetry, neoteny, and indicators of reproductive fitness in each gender, but the overwhelming majority of what makes up the standard is arbitrary), so what I am trying to say here is instead of thinking to yourself that you have failed to live up to some standard, consider rather that it is an effective filter for men who have good taste-- that is, if a man would prefer her over you, then he does not have the specific tastes that would make him a good potential mate for you, and it is thus a useful screen against unsuitable guys. The failure is them, not you.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
