I use Irfanview, but you can do it on MS Paint as well. Using either program, open the photo's file.
Using Paint:
Click on "Resize" in the upper left-hand corner.
Select "percentage" or "pixels". I use "pixels", and get the picture into the range of 800x600, which displays comfortably without widening the forum's formatting.
Using Irfanview:
Select the "Image" dropdown menu, and once there select "Resize/Resample".
A pop-up window will appear Offering "Select new size" (in pixels, inches, or cm). I use pixels and again get it to around 800x600.
You can also select percentage reduction in this window.
If you don't have Irfanview, it's freeware with very reliable and well-monitored downloads. It has some great tools for adjusting or modifying pics, too. Just Google "Irfanview free download" and go to town. I've been using it for five years with nary a hitch. I am not affiliated with them in any way.
