Yesterday I went back to Sintra... for a nice walk where we found some.... "strawberry trees", according to the sign:
Let's look at the wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbutus_unedo: " Due to its presence in southwest and northwest Ireland, it is known as either "Irish strawberry tree", or cain or cane apple"... oh... okay...
We call them Medronheiro and the fruit is medronho.
That doesn't look like a strawberry at all!
These fruits are edible... but must be just right to taste decently... a bit green and they're too hard, a bit past their prime and they're crap.
Only the nice and red ones are good.
People can become drunk from eating too many of these...
So, they make a nice fruit brandy or aguardiente from them... humans and alcohol...
Walking around, we found this nice old fountain.... water quality not controlled.... drink at your own peril!
