I started with some oak pews taken from an old church and planed down to 1/4 ". Then I made xeroxes of the original image and glued them onto the oak. Three images were needed to get the separate layers. Then I cut away what I didn't want.
I don't do this any more, at least right now. I've had five operations on my right eye with at least one more to go and I have to avoid dusty environments. There are books on Amazon that show you how to do this, with patterns. Local hobbists often show off their work at craft fairs, you might find one that would a commission for you.
