I was lucky, my husband and I were having the "when should we try to have a baby" debate when I found out I was pregnant with our oldest. After 8 years on the Pill, I might add, and I hadn't taken antibiotics or herbal supplements and took my pill religiously at the same time every day. Moral of the story: Babies can happen, even if you're careful (and you won't know your due date). He ended up being born about the time we were planning to start trying, so it worked out. And I'm proud to say that my second son was the first planned pregnancy in my family that I'm aware of.
But I'd also add that no matter how "ready" you are to have a baby... I don't think there is such a thing as 100% ready, even with second or third kids.
