No, it's rather a lot more expensive. The choice is simple: either we fork out for a new server that can last us the next 3 years at least, or the forum keeps overloading.

It's essentially no different to a computer you have at home, only it doesn't have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. It is connected to a super-fast Internet connection along with hundreds if not thousands of other servers, and is rarely turned off.

I think the current server has been running non-stop for ~300 days.

So you're saying you need a whole box for the forum? That's nuts!

Not necessarily. In fact, our current server hosts a few websites. Most websites are relatively simple and don't require a powerful computer to run them, so you can have hundreds on the same server.

The forum on the other hand is very large and has many people trying to access it at once. Our current server isn't powerful enough to handle the strain so we're upgrading to a much faster model.
