When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life.

And I'm an anti-feminist and an anti-masculist. Because I don't think that enforcing equity is the answer... if it's being forced then I want nothing to do with it.

I'm an anti-traditionalist... equity would be nice, sure, but only if it happens on its own.

Quote:That doesn't deal with why the mother gets priority over the children in a divorce.

Typical male attitude.(?) A good (female) friend working within the family law system here always said to her friends who were divorcing:" For goodness sake make sure HE gets the children!"

In Muslim countries,in a divorce, the children AUTOMATICALLY go to the father.

A child of the 1950's and 60's, I grew up in a society and a family with strict gender roles. Feminism confused the crap out of me. For the first 10-15 years, I simply made the right noises. I had I not, I would never have gotten laid. I was in my mid 30's and married before I actually realised that women are actually real people.

I have always been a bit bemused by the fact that I can't remember any woman insisting she and her sisters be included in the draft.

@padraic:

It might not be typical where you come from, or in Muslim countries, but in the UK (and I believe in the USA as well) the mother almost always gets priority over the children.

I am to understand pad that "not being included in the military draft" was because of male chauvinistic attitudes towards female personnel .."Not being able to cut it". I also understand that this has been recently rectified so that now (should the female recruit/ officer want to) women can be sent to active tours of duty (if they can cut it)

It's even got self-improvement tips, recipes, tributes to Teddy Roosevelt, DIY projects, and even a couple book lists.

I appreciate her willingness to cop to the ways in which efforts to compensate for historic patterns of male privilege have resulted in injustice to males. She is a true advocate for fairness.

One area where I still worry for women is their personal safety. It may be that more women are learning to defend themselves but I think women out walking alone draw more attackers than males do. I walk my dogs in less developed areas a lot. I'm not sure I'd feel safe doing so if I was a woman.

I did not claim otherwise. Yes,it is also the case in Australia.

Here the family court is mandated to make the interest of the child its priority.Whether that is the case in reality is arguable,especially by non custodial males who still have to pay child support.(here support may be and often is collected by wage garnishee)

If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.
