@Sophia, assuming that all allegations of rape are legitimate accusations is no less absurd than assuming that they are all false allegations. You do not have to default to guilty to take a case seriously, and if you do so, you are not operating within the spirit or letter of the law. This does not help anyone, not even the victims, as it creates a system of justice whose ability to effectively mete out justice is severely compromised.

@Rocket, the report you sourced that statistic from appears to have had some serious flaws in either it's sampling size, or interpretation.

@Hitch, Rocket does not appear to be pro-rapist, and regardless of your quibble over statistics he is expressing a legitimate concern (even if his numbers are off) over something that does happen entirely too much, even by the most conservative or timid metrics. (I'm including rape, and false accusations of rape in this statement, as they both fall under the header "happens entirely too much")

Thanks for that altogether more balanced and carefully considered viewpoint on this subject.

Ok Mr. Fair and balenced where's your evidence I've been repeatedly asking for?

Hmmm Still up shit creek with no paddles on this one, conjecture after conjecture, find something else to argue about if you're going to be so easy to deal with.

I've found a study from Britain which concludes that 8% of rape reports are considered false; taking away the ones where there was still some probability of assault, it was more like 3%.

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.u...ors293.pdf

There's a couple other studies done on the subject, and they all have a general range of 2-8% of accusations being false. I'd like to see Rokcet's sources. I've shown mine, so it's only fair that you should show yours.

Last time I played that game I was 6 years old! Big Grin

But kidding aside: you're right of course. I should show my sources. Only they reside only in my head at the mo. I saw several articles referring to and quoting that study, last year, which was based on 20 years of data of the Ministry of Justice in my country. I.o.w. not on extrapolated sample data sets, but on empirical analysis of the actual figures. All of them.
But I can't find anything about it now...

To be sure: if I did find those articles and/or that report, you wouldn't be able to read any of it anyway. They were not in English...

Simple thing to translate them. Where are you from btw? I mistakenly assumed that we were talking about rape statistics here in the US (where all of the numbers I quoted came from) and this makes my criticism of your claim a little empty. I'm sorry. I'll be the gopher on this though if you'd like. I can find your statistics (perhaps consider it an apology for reaching a conclusion about your claim without actually having investigated it after all).

Not in my experience. I try sending people Babelfish translations every now and then, but they can hardly make heads or tails of it.
Ask Min.

The Netherlands.
Possibly one of the least mysogynist countries on earth, I think: the majority of university students, in the last 25 years, has been and is female (achieving consistently 20 to 30% higher grades than their male counterparts...).

Be my guest. But you'd need more info to go on, and I haven't got any...
But that 66% (I think it was actually 64 point something) figure stuck in my head like a lighthouse, as you may understand. And it made me see a lot of related stuff in a very different light.

Nah, Netherlands is all I needed, I have a ton of friends from the Netherlands from my days playing Eve. All I'll have to do is try and get ahold of one of them for the translation. I'll just give your Ministry a hollar and request some information, hell, they might even have the info in english (or translate it for me)

"Playing Eve"?

Anyway, this isn't politically correct stuff. It's an inconvenient truth (yeah, we got a lot of those). So that might account for it being buried. That is after all S.O.P. for stuff like that.

Well you gotta agree those figures are pretty sensational. And they go against the mainstream. Look how emotionally SG and Hitchslap reacted. As if stung by a bee. Who needs trouble like that. Reason enough to bury it. Let's not rock the boat. Maintain the status quo. Just like everywhere else.

It is amusing to watch you carefully try to explain this while trying to not say that your information is nonsense and most likely not supported by any reliable source.
