RE: Facebook
Oh now, Ace, that's harsh. I barely speak to most people from high school who friended me, but I interact with you lot all the time! Or with people from the CAA! Or people in the skeptic movement.

There are a lot of complaints about social media, but it really does come down to whether you use it, or let it use you. Just like just about ANY sort of social contact, IRL or virtual, there are pros and cons.

If your friend can put up with your stepdaughter, Phil, there's hope that maybe she'll see through her beliefs.

Yeah it could a little harsh. I just have no real need for it. It was through facebook that I ended up hearing from Jess again and all the problems that followed. A great regret. Or I could say meeting Jess at all was the greatest mistake OF MY LIFE! [Shaking fist in her direction]

Yeah social networking is fine, just not for me. Tongue

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

When people become a hassle, block their asses. That's what I did to the married guy who called me a world-weary 26 year old intellectual because I refused to sleep with him. (WTF sort of insult is THAT?)

If it weren't for Facebook and G+, I wouldn't know a whole host of charming characters who make life ever so much more entertaining during the day - people I've met in person because I liked them so much and who enriched my life rather than irritated me.

Just sayin'.

Jess got blocked pretty quick. I came off Facebook once I had enough. Also it was before I met decent people such as yourself. Big Grin
I had no reason at the time to stay on it. I had created another account, it's just...unused. Tongue

RE: Facebook
The major reason I use Facebook is that it's been a lilfeline for me since I lost my Sam, a kind of contact with people I wouldn't be able to reach otherwise. I've only ever blocked two people on it. The first was one of my uncles who was being an insensitive arsehole shortly after she died; basically he told me to stop moping around like the world owed me something. The other one was my sister after something she messaged me caught me at the wrong time and seriously pissed me off (she's unblocked now though.)

Basically I learned that just as in real life, if people are going to treat you like something that dropped out of a dog's arse, or are just trying to use you for their own purposes, they most probably need you than you need them and you're probably better off without them.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

you know, it starts getting really funny when she comments and someone else has a christoholic on their friends list and they start both arguing on my friends comments. Hope? Well she is the one I told you about with the anti-vaccine crap and after reading the literature I gave her, she is vaccinating her daughter (and older son). Hope she drops the Jesus shit quickly cause she thinks the Pearls are good Christians and everyone should follow their methods of "correction".

You can save your face and time. Or you can hope that the continual brushfires of interaction that she lights will ultimately change things for the better, at least for you. Defriend her, Put her in a special "Isolation" Friend Group or do nothing. Those are your most effective options.

I've effectively stopped using Facebook except for the XMPP gateway, so I have the option of staying in chat contact, while Facebook automatically emails me comments and requests. I let Thunderbird block the tracking images in the emails. Big Grin

People can contact me.

I've had more time to focus on my life without depending on Facebook. It is a tool, but not one that I want to maintain continually at this time.
