Its been mentioned before that FallenToReasons Atheism is closeted due to family and social reasons. They've been quite open about it.

I see no reason to question that unless you intend to make an unproven assertion about something. Either way, its irrelevant if the points are valid.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?
The f**king janitor or the dude who runs the waterslide. Throughout history every mystery. Ever solved has turned out to be. Not Magic.

I don't know about the social construct in your life Phil, but you can't just drop the disbelief bomb on 80% of your born-again Christian friends. Social suicide.

It's also been mentioned before that I am the one who supposedly woke him up to reason/logic/science/atheism. If anyone besides FTR is supposed to be confident of his sudden change, it should be me and to be blunt, I'm not.

Have you seen a single post by me so far that could remotely be called pro-Christ?

Hunter, the one who posted here, is my stepdaughter. She knows I'm an atheist but she didn't disown me. Neither did some of my fundamentalist friends from out of state. If they are really your friends, you wouldn't have to fake your beliefs (if that is what you're doing). Family, well family is a different subject but in my experience they usually are the ones to say "let's just agree to disagree" after they see you aren't going to throw them away.

I told my family over dinner 3 weeks ago. My parents are Catholic and my sister believes in God but hasn't read a single verse in the Bible. We never talk about religion in the house so I wasn't sure what was going to happen. All that happened was that my dad seemed a little shocked that I said western-culture's baby Jesus never existed. It felt like I robbed him of something fundamentally dear, as Christianity is something you grow up with in South America.

After dinner, we sat down together and he started formulating ways of explaining how Jesus could have existed...

My friends on the other hand is a much much MUCH more complex situation. I'm 'high up' within my group as I play for the church youth band. I also play in a 'real band' where the main criteria for joining is that you have to be Christian. I've invested more money into this band than I care to count. We're soon releasing our first EP so this definitely isn't a good time to drop the Christian act. Friends have often told me how they look up to me because of my Godliness...

This is only the tip of the ice berg. I'm in real deep.

Yes and you know there were some others there that felt the same after reading some of the threads you started. Why are you questioning me about it? You are very aware how some posters felt.

RE: The Bible
Maybe everyones situation is different. Closet atheism is hardly an unknown, but I don't live in the US, so its much harder for me to comment on how bad it is to "come out" as an atheist.

Either way, would it not be easier to reserve judgement than to attack something as menial as maintaining his social life.

You're one heck of a poster Phil, I love reading your refutations and response in science based threads, but on social peer pressure, I don't think you're an expert.

You may be right, you may be wrong, but I see no reason to jump at shadows.

Did you take note of the ones who were suspicious? Lifelong atheists. The only ones who were understanding of my situation were the ex-Christians.

Clearly you've never been a Christian.

I'm pretty tempted to show you his logic for thinking I was still a theist. It was pretty imaginative to say the least...
