Why do you believe in god?

I've decided that I cannot. Believing in god does no harm to me. I don't believe in a specific god, just that a god(or gods) exist. I may be a logical person, but I do have a spiritual side and I fully embrace that part of myself.

It's wishful thinking if you can't even give a reason why you believe in a god.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Yes.

Does this sentient god of yours interact with humanity in any way or does it have any effect on the universe?

Yes.

That means that you want a god to exist, so you choose to believe that one does. That is intellectual dishonesty to the extreme. Here's a question for you... Why do you choose to believe that a god exists?

I have a lot of ideas on the nature of god. I don't think god ever interacted with humans though.

Then why call it god?

I don't think it's fair to call my beliefs dishonest in any way. I fully understand that my beliefs are beliefs and keep them there.
I've always liked the idea that there's something bigger than all of us, something humanity cannot hope to understand. I believe because I like the idea of god. It's a fascinating concept.

Does god have to interact with humans to be god? If not what else do I call a powerful being that created all we know?

Intellectually dishonesty is not dishonesty in the traditional sense, so there is no offense meant by it. Believing something, simply because you wish it were true, is a form of dishonesty with oneself. I like the idea of Elves and Wizards, but that doesn't mean I can go around believing that they exist. I mean... I could... but then I'd be insane.

Again I ask, why call it god? What you did was avoided the question and asked me an entirely different one.

So there is a reason. It's an unreasonable one but a reason nonetheless. So please stop saying you have no reason to believe.

Why not just call it "nothing" if it doesn't interact with humans and he made it up? And this is why I just don't get deists.
