How Should We Elect Staff?
#11
RE: How Should We Elect Staff?
I think that if a staff position is open, then the vacancy should be declared and people can privately nominate themselves for the position, and that is voted on among the staff themselves.

A voting system seems a little pointless, its not as if staff really have a manifesto to vote from other than "I promise to keep an eye on the forum and fairly apply the rules". Its not really a system that lends itself to personal manifestos of intent.

While the moderators do a great job on this site, its not as if the job is anything other than keeping it clean tidy, and enforcing the rules. You don't vote for your local police officer, the police force interview people who want the job and decide who fits in best and can do the job.

However, I would usher in the proviso that members can vote for no confidence if they feel a moderator has overstepped their bounds or unfairly used their power beyond the scope of the rules and THAT should be put to a forum vote.

So, no to voting in moderators, but yes to being able to vote OUT moderators. Not really any change.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?

I'm quite sure that such a policy is already in place... unofficially. If a bunch of members publicly voice their dissatisfaction with a specific member of the staff, it would definitely have the same effect. So long as the complaints were valid.

Personally... I think that the staff should be chosen by the staff and that Adrian should have the final say. Period. End of story.

In every forum I have ever run the moderators were chosen. Those who ask for power are normally the ones that should never have it.

Exactly. Leave it as it is. The best people for positions of power are the ones who don't ask and actually deserve it.

I agree.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

The staff should be selected based on a seer's intepretation of the moans eminating from Tiberius and Shelly's marital chamber.

I'm assuming that was a typo, or do Tiberius and Shell B really have a dojo? Tongue

What brought this on? 0.o

Even if it did come down to voting... I am against letting people who haven't posted much (arbitrary) here get a vote. Alternately have it be the donators group (not wholly a fan of this, because some of our more prevalent members wouldn't apply).

I don't have any issue with the current system. Unless there are major changes going on at the top, Lilly advises against changing a system that seems to be working (from where she's at).

To be honest voting on members seems a bit self indulgent. It's only a forum not a country. Who REALLY cares as long as the moderators act like they should and do their jobs well?

This is a privately owned internet forum. Appointing moderators seems to be a virtually universal practice, and I think usually a good one. In my experience, poorly moderated forums tend not to have a large membership,at least not for long.

I would hate to see the selection of moderators become a popularity contest..

I'm perfectly happy with the present system. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
