The Pirate Bay blocked by UK ISP's
Hmm
I figured maybe politics for this one?
Anyhow

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17894176

Quote: File-sharing site The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK internet service providers, the High Court has ruled.

I have googled it and it is indeed blocked - You just get:
Quote: Sorry, the web page you have requested is not available through Virgin Media.

Virgin Media has received an order from the Courts requiring us to prevent access to this site in order to help protect against copyright infringement.

If you are a Virgin Media home broadband customer, for more information on why certain web pages are blocked, please click here.

I think this is a ridiculously heavy handed attempt to curtail copywrite theft, and is doomed to complete failure. There are hundreds of other torrent sites available at the click of a mouse. Not to mention the ease of circumventing this block and going to TPB anyway.

One of my main concerns here is censorship of the internet. We don't fucking live in China, the idea of the government blocking websites goes against the whole ethos of the internet and I find it absolutely offensive - What will they block next?

Will this affect me at all? Not a chance, I will still download the new game of thrones episode when I get home, and then I will buy the DVD box set when it's released as I did the first series

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the block works. Then I shall tell people how to get around it.

That stinks! Who the hell are this shambles of a government to tell me what sites I can or cannot visit. I use thepiratebay.org all the time, and not just for the latest DVD's.

Now I have to go to all the trouble of bookmarking this

instead of this

http://thepiratebay.org

What a hassle. I may just give up and not visit ever again!!! Panic

America already blocks countless videos and content to those of us who live in the UK.

The governments can do whatever the fuck they want at the common man's expense, whether its at home, in the workplace, or surfing the net.

Sucks to be us I know.

Make sure to PM me the solution. I want to act cool to all my friends when I'm accessing a government blocked site, and make them go "wow that guy is so cool".

If it uses the Cleanfeed system (that was only supposed to be for child porn), can you get around that?

Oh, so it is a joke for anyone with any tech savvy at all then.

What about demonoid? Not that I'd ever use either site. I'm deeply morally opposed.

Hell, you guys should go whole-hog & block Google Big Grin

That's where I get most of my torrents from. Completely legal of course. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
