I am going to regret this.

I am going to regret this.
So I've come to the brilliant conclusion that I simply have to tell my foster parents [the last ones I had, and the best ones, the ones I closest consider my family] that I'm an atheist. They're divorced, and truth be told they aren't very traditional christians...and to be honest? I think my foster mother is a quiet atheist herself. But my foster father...well...he keeps telling me to "speak with god" and "be with god" and "have faith" and stuff. I've always kind of been...squeemish, about saying anything, I just kinda smile nervously and nod my head and hope the conversation just kinda...moves along.

So...I'm going to just come clean with them, try to be calm about it, and hope they hear me out. They've always been pretty rational people.

It's gonna come out sooner or later. Might as well be sooner.

Also one of my guinea pigs just had more babies. I'm running out of space to keep them.

Good luck man. You know them better then anyone and if you think it won't cause you any problems then why not?

First tell them that you are a gay necrophiliac with a penchant for eating your own poop. Then say, "Nah, just kidding, but I am an atheist."

RE: I am going to regret this.
Coming out as an atheist is a mixed bag. Some get the worst treatment, and others like me have been lucky with family. It is something only the person facing it can gauge.

My adoptive mom treated it like a phase at first but now accepts it and sometimes is willing to listen to my arguments. My biological brother however, is a bible thumper and I have unfortunately had to cut ties with him because he won't leave me alone on that issue.

Good luck.

You're a very courageous person for doing this.

Just watch yourself. My parents aren't every faithful Christians and they flipped out when my mom found out I was trying to start an SSA at my school.

Well...

THAT could have gone better. But, it could have gone worse. I think my foster father is in denial. His adoptive son is a non-believer? "Oh hell no" is probably his mindset right now, given how he reacted. I think he's a bit devastated, actually, but he didn't seem willing to argue me out of it. I think he realized it was something I hadn't made a decision on lightly.

Foster mother, as I assumed, simply did not care. Well, she CARED but she was like "Hun, it doesn't matter. Doesn't matter you're adopted, doesn't matter you're an atheist, I'll always love ya."

Yeah...it could have been much, much worse. Big Grin

I'm glad it went ok for you.

Welcome to being outwardly atheist!
