Why is Anarchism mostly taken as a joke?
I'm not an anarchist (more of an Trotskyist),but i know some people that actually study anarchism(they know how stuff would work under anarchism,...),and they are taken as a joke, mostly laugh at.

So why is anarchism in such low position?

I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer

My extremely prejudiced opinion? Because anarchists are idalistic youngsters who hasn't got a good grasp of reality and think they can better the world by listening to punk and 'sticking it to the man'. Tongue

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

The concept of a state-less society seems too alien to modern worldviews of mass population centres. As Kichi says, it's rare that an anarchist actually describes how it would work. The misconception of Anarchy doesn't help, since most people interpret Anarchy as Chaos, which is not necessarily the goal of an anarchist.

I'm not sure where I stand on it to be honest, since I believe society has responsibility to provide certain rights to the disadvantaged which I fail to see could be constructed without a state.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?

The only actual real functioning anarchist territory that I know of was the 'free territory' of Ukraine.

It didn't last long as I understand it.

People say that anarchism/activism is ineffective, however, I call BS on that notion. While it will never completely change the world in a way that idealists think it should, it certainly rustles Jimmies. I don't think we should have state-less societies either; as that really would create chaos. We do need to continue to challenge the status quo, though. The man does need to remember that the peasants can revolt, should he get too big for his boots. To me, that is what anarchism is, and should be about. Keeping the balance tipped in the favor of the people. It doesn't always work out that way, however, we can but dream.

Anarcho-capitalism is an oxymoron because anarchy means "without archons" and private police are archons. Anarcho-socialism is just unrealistic, idealistical communism. After all, Karl Marx's vision of communism after capitalism self-destructs is statelessness. (That is not to say that anarcho-socialists are Marxists.) When you ask an anarcho-socialist what he or she would do about people being cruel to others, it is common to be accused of not understanding anarchy. But the truth is, the answers they give are not just something everyone would embrace as soon as they understand it. Here is an example.

Agree, 100%. The problem is that people tend to put an idealistic spin on concepts in order to side-step really big problems. People are not made in molds; one person's idea of utopia is hell to another.
