eBay bans woo
Just heard this on BBC News satellite channel and had to share:

Sale of tarot readings and spells banned on eBay

Quote:The sale of a range of fortune-telling and witchcraft-related services will be prohibited on online auction site eBay after 30 August 2012.

Tarot readings, spells, curses and blessings are among the "intangible" categories being removed by the site.

The decision has been made because conflicts between buyers and sellers of these services are difficult to resolve, eBay said.

All listings of this kind will be removed in September, it added.

So the right decision for the wrong reason, then.

Predictably (see what I did there?) it's upset a lot of people who have started a petition against the decision.

I could have made a fortune (see what I did there?) but I'm strictly a non-profit-prophet.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Assuming for a moment that this stuff really works, if I were to cast a spell on someone to make them fall in love with me, isn't that a form of mind control? Well, all spells and charms really, I suppose, but love spells seem creepier to me. Could you really love a person who you know only loves you because you programmed them to do so?

Also: I wonder if these fortune-tellers saw this coming? We should have seen this petition set up ages ago if they had - a pre-emptive petition. Doesn't really inspire confidence in their services, does it?
