I guess the reasoning is that they want to show christians that the bible has some non-sense in it, some contradictions, some things which don't quite make sense and some things which are just wrong. They hope that christians will see this reasoning and admit that the bible is full of errors... after that, they may hope the christians to actually abolish the bible from their lives and, with it, their belief.
Notably, this tactic rarely works.

I don't. Most often I simply take something said by the other person as a feed into what I like to think of as wit. Much like I did with you a few minutes ago.

I do it, but not strictly out of need. I simply enjoy the thrill of the fight. I'm a contentious fucker and I'm not sorry.
Christians are the target simply because they are closest at hand and I understand that particular superstition better than, say, Islam or Hinduism. There is also my desire to see Christianity marginalized in America because it is an actively negative influence.

This coming from someone that labels anyone with different political views a 'nazi,' and who also tried to label the terrorist that wanted to blow up the Fed a 'libertarian.'

Why can't an 'actual atheist' be 'anti-christian?'
Anyway christianity is the largest religion and it's the one most people, in the US, were indoctrinated and are still exposed to today.

Atheists are not smart. Their level of intellectual competence is for the most part superficial.
The smart atheists are few and far between. They read Nagel, Mackie, Russell, Ruse, Martin and Quine. The average atheist hasn't even heard of any of these people.
The sooner we come to terms with reality, the better for all of us. We're not as smart as we think we are.
