already answered before but again to show that someone can hold the opposite view and to show , not prove , that it is a valid point of view within a framework that's not chained to "scientific method" which is not the best tool to deal with the Transendental or even philosophical.

ah, I see.
Good luck with that.

The transcendental... whatever that is... does it exist? I mean, does it exist out of human minds or thoughts?

Philosophy... you are aware that science is a branch of philosophy, right? That's why scientists with a doctorate degree are PhDs.... philosophiae doctor.
But you must mean some other branch of philosophy... right?
from the wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy Wrote:Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument.
Sounds a lot like science to me.... but I'm just a faulty human being... what does my view matter?

well in some ways you already have limited experience of the transendental when you look at a painting and it stirs something inside of you and you decide its good, someone else looks at it and says its rubbish. Can science be brought to bear on it to prove you are wrong to have those positive feelings about the painting and stop you having those feelings?

Science can be brought to bear on paintings and evaluate what it is about paintings that people find good and stirring. Psychologists can look at these and explain why it is so.

What is your point?

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Am I to understand that some limited form of transcendental experience is the awareness of good? Is that what you are saying?

Transcendental (not tooth decay) is all in the mind...this has also been observed via neuroscience.

Not quite but what i'm saying is science is fantastic at dealing with The Cosmos and how it works but not so good when it tries to deal with things that are Transendental and that the feelings you get while not necessarily fully transendental it does give you some ideas about the limits of science.

neuroscience can show which areas of the brain is operating but that not a proof that thoughts or ideas have there origin there. There are some who have the Idea that everything we think of as existense is just a projected illusion and that the brain is just a fancy receptor. I have no fixed opinion on that on but i find it interesting.

But they can never feel it for you. And can you deny your feelings just because someone tells you its unscientific or do you feel it any different because someone tries to explain the source of the feeling. My point is simple Science is not the best tool to explore the Transendental when as a matter of fact its beyond science almost by definition.

Tyson is someone I really can listen to; but I have never heard him say there is definately nothing beyond the Cosmos.

So therefore there must be, God a real, the Bible is true and Jesus wants you for a sunbeam? Undecided

And by definition there can't be as 'The Cosmos' is all there is, whether we've discovered it or not!
