Yes, it depends how you define god, and I think that a spirit being which lives above the clouds and sometimes gives commands to humans would fall within most atheists' definition of god.

If that's the case Christianity is a polytheistic religion, as that fits the definition of angels. Satan would also be a God. Are you basically admitting that you believe in more than one God, or are you just niggling to try to prove a point? There is a difference between Atheism and naturalism, most western Atheists are naturalists, most eastern philosophies are Atheist but not naturalists.

Wow, this Everett guy is one bad-ass dude...or one deluded ass!
http://www.spiegel.de/international/spie...14291.html
Quote:During one of his first visits to Brazil's Pirahãs, members of the tribe wanted to kill Daniel Everett. At that point, he wasn't even a "bagiai" (friend) yet and a travelling salesman -- who felt Everett had conned him -- had promised the natives a lot of whiskey for the murder. In the gloom of midnight, the Pirahã warriors huddled along the banks of the Maici and planned their attack.

What the tribesmen didn't realize, however, was that Everett, a linguist, was eavesdropping, and he could already understand enough of the Amazon people's cacophonic singsong to make out the decisive words.

"I locked my wife and our three children in the reasonably safe shed of our hut and immediately went to the men," Everett recalls. "In one move, I snatched up all of their bows and arrows, went back to the hut and locked them up." He had not only disarmed the Pirahãs -- he had also startled them -- and they let him live. The next day, the family left without any trouble.
This guy could have taken Chuck Norris in his prime!

Hilarious.

John V is getting all worked up that a group of people in the amazon jungle share a lack of belief with people all over the globe. Somehow millions of atheists can be in Europe, Asia and North America and yet when someone finds a few in South America his panties start riding right up his ass.

lol

Get over it. Apparently there are parts of the world that already figured it out. Not everyone wants to be a stupid sheep.

Jesus Condom Hatin' Christ your panties are in a bunch. He lived in the Amazon Jungle for years. I think picking up a bunch of bows off the ground is within his capabilities.

In a polytheistic paradigm, they're gods. In a monotheistic paradigm, they're angels. Either way, someone who believes in them is not an atheist.

Do you know the difference between an Atheist and a Naturalist? I'm guessing probably not. My whole thrust was that it debunks the idea that every tribe has a desire to worship, which has been claimed by many Christians. I explained it a few times already, do you have some sort of selective reading deficiency? Fascinating...

What was his scientific education? According to wiki he got a degree in foreign missions from Moody Bible Institute then studied linguistics.

Yes, and these people are neither.

I haven't argued against that, as from what I've seen it seems to be accurate. However, you called them atheists, and others have as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linguistics
Quote: Linguistics is the scientific study of human language.

Also they certainly are Atheists, you yourself don't believe that Angels are Gods, but for them it's okay? I think a defining characteristic of all Gods is that they are worshiped. I'm not even sure what your whole point is, other than to play some sort of nitpicking game.

Again, suppose that:

1. There were an area of this forum restricted to atheists
2. There were members of the forum who had said that they believe in spirit beings which live above the clouds and sometimes come down and talk to them, although other people can't see them
3. The people in 2 applied for access to the atheist-only area

Do you think they'd be approved? I kinda doubt it.

That they're not atheists. Non-worshiping /= atheist.

Yeah it is. The Shinto are considered Atheists, they believe in spirits. The Buddhists believe in reincarnation, some Buddhists believe in spirits. They are considered Atheists. They'd probably be allowed into your imaginary forum, which isn't relevant to anything. Lots of people on these forums call themselves spiritual. Whatever the hell that means.

You are confusing Western Naturalism with literal Atheism. You continue to confuse it. Whether or not there was an 'Atheists only section' of this forum where other people also made the same mistake is irrelevant to anything. I'm done repeating it to you as you continue to not understand.
