I can say from personal experience that the term goes back at least as early as 1981.

Now they call it Limewire. I've decided that fileshareing in not something I want to do though, so I purchase what I want so the people developing the things I like will get more money to create more things that I like. It also strengthens the GNP which in turn increases the purchasing power of my dollar.

Warez sites are a great place to get viruses, same with limewire. They embed them in the pron.
