Useless / Unhelpful statements religious people make

So, this is basically from my conversations with religious people which always leave me facepalming. I don't know how these statements are supposed to make someone feel better, or solve problems.

I just have to ask, when you religious people make these statements to someone else, what do you think is the outcome of these statements? Why do you make them?

"God will save you" - Saying that to an atheist is like saying "Harry Potter will save you"

"Have faith in God. It's all part of his grand plan"

"Keep praying. He listens to everyone."

Oh and of course, if I happen to state something like "I'd rather take care of my own problems, thank you." I almost always get the "OMG! YOU'RE A BLASPHEMER!" look or response.

After 32 years of listening to same BS, it gets really, really tiring. So if you're a religious person trying to talk to an atheist (or at least an atheist like me who gets annoyed by these useless statements), stop making these statements because they not only fall on deaf ears - but are annoying as heck.

Me: (shares a story with co-workers about my brother's eye surgery gone bad) ...and so we're just waiting to see what happens.

co-worker: (as she picks up a pen to write something down, in a strong tone) What's your brother's full name?

Me: (Thinking she probably has a way of pulling the right strings to get him in with a specialist) His name is [name goes here]

co-worker: Got it. (looks at me boldly) I'll pray for him.

Me: (got nothing. Stares)

Yeah... I bet Job prayed, too.

I have it on good authority that my ex's family is all praying for me to "see the light and come to Jesus" - for the past 20 years. They certainly aren't shy about telling me that's precisely what they've been up to.

Say, how's that prayer thing workin' out for you?

There is always going to be some religious half-wit testifying to the legitimacy of the god of the country he was born in. Enjoy the blasphemy and the resulting looks. It's one of the few things we have to annoy them nearly as much as they annoy the rational world.
