George Zimmerman: Weak Prosecution
#11
RE: George Zimmerman: Weak Prosecution
I am pretty sure he was not deputized at all, nor was he even acting in the capacity of his local Neighborhood Watch. He was told not to follow but did anyway.

Maybe it wasn't murder, but certainly Zimmerman is responsible for Martin's death because he certainly instigated whatever confrontation actually happened by playing vigilante.

I think the prosecution dropped the ball the moment they charged him with Murder 2. I think they must have been hoping Zimmerman would plea down to Manslaughter, but the prosecution has been so weak, I don't think he's going to feel the need. I think he's going to get off with nothing but the personal shame he will be forced to confront for the rest of his life. Which is something, but I don't think it's enough.

Let's face it: the guy ruined his life the second he shot that kid, as well it should be. He's a rogue who allayed the 911 operator's advice, and in doing so, shot and killed a teenager who was just walking down the street.

I do think the choice to prosecute for murder was a political one in which pragmatism was set aside.

I think it's interesting to note, however, that those that speak of self-defense never take into account Treyvon Martin's right to it. If I see that some creepy guy is stalking me at night, do I not have the right to defend myself as I see necessary?

Not if you're black.

Only in America.
Depends on who was the aggressor. Having a gun doesn't necessarily make you the aggressor. Skittles are irrelevant; he still had his fists, and evidence suggests he started using them.

Also, the cops didn't tell him not to; they told him they "didn't need [Zimmerman] to do that". That is not an order; it's not really even a suggestion. Zimmerman also responded "OK".

Again, they never told him to back off. Go listen to the original call.

FYI, I'm in favor of a manslaughter conviction. I don't think the guy had the intent to murder, and if Trayvon attacked him, his actions were self defense.

Or…

Local safety activist acquitted of all charges by a jury of his peers for shooting the young criminal that was trying to kill him after a bogus prosecution by DA attempting to appease public mob whipped into frenzy by biased reporting.

I only hope some safety activists, local or otherwise, keep a close watch on Zimmerman if he does walk. My advice to them will be to stand their ground, and if he flees, bring that ground to him the same way he did to Martin. So long as we're going back to old west justice, I want retribution.
