Man with Downs Syndrome Dies Due to Police Actions

RE: Man with Downs Syndrome Dies Due to Police Actions
I always thought and actualy still believe that the police in the US is better than in Europe ( in terms of public releations and the number of abuses)

Most European countries dont have a "history of being a republic" or at least a very short one and most police forces here evolved out of a state apperatus of an absolute monarchy or dictatorship which used that apperatus to inforce it`s regime. Some may say that this does not play a role, but I am certain that the history of an institution has an impact on how it is today.

As Wiki reports, citing a study of police abuse,

Quote:In the United States, investigation of cases of police brutality has often been left to internal police commissions and/or district attorneys (DAs). Internal police commissions have often been criticized for a lack of accountability and for bias favoring officers, as they frequently declare upon review that the officer(s) acted within the department's rules, or according to their training. For instance, an April, 2007 study of the Chicago Police Department found that out of more than 10,000 police abuse complaints filed between 2002 and 2003, only 19 (0.19%) resulted in meaningful disciplinary action. The study charges that the police department's oversight body allows officers with "criminal tendencies to operate with impunity," and argues that the Chicago Police Department should not be allowed to police itself.[28] Only 19% of large municipal police forces have a civilian complaint review board (CCRB). Law enforcement jurisdictions that have a CCRB have an excessive force complaint rate against their officers of 11.9% verses 6.6% complaint rate for those without a CCRB.

We see this time and time again. The bodies are ignored by the investigators who are mainly either cops or DAs with a vested interest in supporting the cops. What has changed is the relatively recent explosion in the availability of video cameras and/or cell phones. It is much harder to ignore a video of six cops beating the shit out of a guy and claim they were following "departmental rules."

Here in the county I live at a middle aged woman was driving home on a back road when she noticed someone stuck in the ditch. She dropped off her 9 yo granddaughter at her house, called the sheriff, and went back to pull the person out of the ditch.

After the person's vehicle was clear, she was having trouble with getting her truck out of 4 wheel drive. This is when the sheriff showed up. He walked over being all gruff and told her to get out of the car. At this point he put his arm in through her window like he was going to take the keys out of her ignition.

The startled woman lightly pushed his hand away from her body even though he wasn't reaching to touch her.

He then ordered her to get out of the vehicle. She gets out and standing on the running board on the side of the truck raises her hands. The sheriff then tazers her. She yanks the tazer barbs out of her stomach where they had impaled her.

So he does it again. And keeps the juice going until she falls from the running board onto her face in convulsions.

The sheriff then arrests her for resisting arrest and assault of a police officer.

This happened less than a month ago right here in my county.

And it wasn't in any of the local news. Not a one. I only know because I work with one of her friends.

Fucking cops.
Everything I needed to know about life I learned on Dagobah.

You really only have a chance to make the news if someone dies. A garden variety beating from the Po-Lice doesn't make the grade.

Yeah - lots of them seem to be real fucking heroes.
