Hello people! I am a 20 year college student who is currently in his second year. I'm actually new to forums in general so I hope that don't look like too much of a newbie. I actually decided to become an atheist only recently, so I am still thinking and researching about certain things. The only thing about this conversion of mine is that I actually haven't told the church that I am a part of about it yet. In fact, I'm actually still working with the people there to help out with their youth group, which I have been a part of for five years. I do plan on coming out, however, I want to make sure that I can find some new people out there that I socialize with after the fact. It tears at me inside knowing that what I'm doing is like betrayal to them, but this is the only way I can think of build myself up in this new period of my life. I hope to talk with you guys soon and to help contribute to the site in the future!

As for feeling like you have somehow betrayed people in your church, drop that bag of bricks immediately. You are not in any way obligated to explain yourself to them. Those who are true friends will demonstrate that soon enough. As for the rest, fuck 'em.
