It can happen naturally in fish and reptiles but I think the offspring will be a perfect clone of it's mother.

Actually in komodo dragons its always a male, so that way the off spring cab then reproduce with the mother and start a population.

I'm not sure how the female would manage to get a hold of a male chromosome to use. And surely the new population would be horrifically inbred?

From what I learned in biology an animal population has to number 50 genetically unrelated individuals to be viable. Else what you end up with is this.
