Ah... the joys of playing with hardware...
Luckily, PC manufacturers make it so that compatible elements only fit in compatible connectors 
Don't forget your paste, when you change the heat-sink.
And.... to disassemble a laptop, search for instructions on youtube... it has helped a few times, in the past...
My current laptop is extremely easy to open and perform the basic tasks of replacing RAM or HDD... but my previous one was a nightmare... I had a few screws on the table by the time I put it all together...

I left the shell of the broken fan on the heat sink, disconnected the broken fan, gutted the blade so there were no obstructions to the fins. Then I basically piggy backed the new fan over the holes of the old one. You know what is holding the new fan in place? TRASH BAG TIES! I put the cone on the new fan now my tower looks like the hood of a muscle car with not hood and a huge air intake valve. Funny thing is after all this my system is running better than it did before it broke.

The computer dissipates the heat better if you put heat sinking paste on the top of the processor before assembling the heat sink. They are sold in small tooth-paste like containers.
Also, do not work the hardware with the computer on, and use an anti-static bracelet to protect against discharges. Not to you, but its to avoid damage to the machine.
I have actually fixed machines that had a static buildup on them, the best way to deal with this, is to purge the CMOS via the proper jumper pins.

Removing the cover is a form of disassembly for some people... not to mention that removing the cover of a laptop, sometimes requires quite some effort.

It depends on the netbook. Most, no, it doesn't require disassembly. Mine, it does. But I knew that when I bought it, so no biggie.
