Atheist Group Forces Grieving Mother To Remove Roadside Cross

RE: Atheist Group Forces Grieving Mother To Remove Roadside Cross
Same here, Alex. I've never seen a large burning effigy on the side of the road, and I've lived all sorts of places in America. Usually they are just little crosses no more than 1-2 feet tall that have some flowers. I can't imagine this was anything different (although that is complete conjecture.) I can imagine, however, (more conjecture, I didn't watch the video) that this guy may be a grieving family member or friend, and having some group of atheists start litigation over the memorial of his loved one might spark some rage that he generalized. Not excusing his rant, just contextualizing it (with pure conjecture).
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

If it really was one of those small crosses and there isn't more to the story, that does seem like pure dicketry.

Although, having a valid point doesn't stop the guy in the video from coming across as an inbred, ignorant fuck.

Personally, those roadside memorials disgust me. I see no valid reason for them being there.

I think I saw what the cross looked like on the video link and it was fairly tiny and not on a busy road at all and seemed to be getting in no ones way.

I think the atheist who sent that woman the letter was likely to be an officious prick with too much time on his or her hands.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I love how nobody here bothered to get the facts of the original story before posting all these comments.

The cross was 6 feet tall. The atheists that wanted it removed (after it was there for 2 years) didn't contact the family. They contacted the city and pointed out that this cross on public land is a violation of city law. Yes, there are probably more important battles to fight, but the public display of a 6 foot cross on government land is a clear violation of church and state, and we don't want that precedent to be allowed to settle in.

Quote:though I have heard a country song about three wooden crosses.

There is some bunch of shitheads who goes around erecting 3 crosses - fairly good sized ones as I recall - because they think everyone wants to be constantly reminded of their bullshit.

However, I also recall that they put them on private rather than public property so they do not run afoul of the law.

There are more than a few of those in the mountains here in NC.

Usually I think when people have to throw up their symbol everywhere, it's because they're overcompensating.

They could always have erected a fucking great pentagram, complete with dribble candles and goat skulls, about 10 feet away. Wait til the Christian's object (circa 0.4 nanoseconds) then say " Oh can we not erect religious symbols in public places? Fair enough. Want us to take down that one as well?"

Gotta say - not all that bothered by them - as long as they are not on fire of course - that's a whole other ball of wax.

Over here there are crosses all over the place by the roadside - its a handy reminder how bad Greek drivers really are.
