That said, Amitriptylene (which I'm on now) is a Tricyclic antidepressant and Viibryd (which I was on a year ago) was a Serotonergic antidepressant, so maybe things won't be that bad.

That's some seriously shitty insurance right there. It would take 25 brand-name scripts or a 100 generics/month before I felt that kinda financial pain.

Well, yes and no. Its zero out of pocket once the $5K deductible is met.
Once I compared the premiums of the high deductible plan vs. the plan with copays, it was a no-brainer (the difference in annual premiums was more than the deductible, factor in copays and less-than-100% coverage and it's even a bigger no-brainer).

No doubt - there are numerous reasons. We can have a better system than what we have now (by "better", I mean "more affordable" and "accessible to all").
What we have now is something else, depending on where you happen to be on the economic ladder.
