RE: [ Forum participation ]
Been having that "dried up" feeling for a week or so now.

My avid posting might return yet but I'm on a quiet period at the moment.

Horrible feeling I've said everything I have to say - and then repeated it.

Someone go get us some new fodder! Formidable fodder!

All I know is I like you guys Smile I literally give you more time with me than I do my own family. So I'm not going anywhere.. I just go through ups and downs of wanting to talk about religion. The other categories I visit more frequently now, and that's just to see you fine gents and ladies Big Grin
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

It isn't so surprising. Atheism is really just non-participation in theism. What is there to say? "No thank you." "No gods for me." "(By the way, what's a god?)"

Most of the memorable moments amount to zingers handed out to especially obtuse theists. But picking on the worst sort of theists isn't all that entertaining. It can lead to the impression that atheists are brighter, but we should all know better than that.

Maybe once we get a little bit off our chests we just run out of steam?

That's the issue with a forum dedicated to 'beliefs' in one form or another.

We're not theists; we can't simply keep reinterpreting scripture to make it mean whatever social norms are in favour at a given period. The bass arguments leveled against atheiSts, or non believers in any sense, have pretty much been the same since religion and gods were invented, as have the rebuttals.

There hasn't been anything new to reply to in thousands of years.

I like the forum because it gives a place for atheists who are repressed or threatened a place to vent, a place to air their concerns and their wishes, their hopes. It also allows people from all over the world to communicate.

One of the biggest turn-ons for me is the chance to discuss topics of interest without the infection of religious world-views (e.g. my recent discussion of the economics of reward with KUSA). Being an atheist forum, we have the freedom to bring together a wide variety of views without being hamstrung by the lensing effect of doctrine.

Besides, we have so many informed members here with knowledge of history, politics, physics, chemistry, biology, maths, sociology, psychology, neurology, logic, linguistics, anthropology... yes, even theology; the list goes on!

It's not just about the religious discussions.

I will participate in just about any thread, except when it comes to threads like this, because they just end up making me head hurt. I am more a student of theological matters in their simplicity, not of thoroughly deep philosophical or scientific matters.

I don't participate as much as I used to or even as much as I'd like, if only because real life gets in the way. Actively participating in the forum scene for ten years or so tend to make one a little jaded. Mainly I patrol the boards to make sure everyone's behaving themselves.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

My participation has, um...

Let's just say there was once a time I was averaging twenty-five posts per day; now it's only four and a half. Part of the reason is me being busier, and part is because many of the same topics are repeated. Then there are the topics where I really have nothing to add to the conversation.

It isn't like I'm away from this site; I just Lurker

I really would like to post more, I just have trouble finding good jump in points.

same here dark. I am down to pointing out misuse of science only. I don't really care anymore who is right anymore.

Forums have people that really shouldn't be commenting one way or another. Like "whatever's no god thing". He don't believe in their god because it don't fit observation. That's true to me too. But He has no idea what to think so his type of person claims "personal". "personal" is a cop out, like literal bible is a cop out. No matter what proof, or observations say just wont matter to most. Bible thumpers just don't care. The answer is probably between the no-god and god. But some on each side don't have the mental capability to see that.

No much participation in the forum as for discussing things and sharing thoughts, specially in this part of the forum(Atheism).

SO......Why ?

They are boring, repeated topics and ideas, things that I went through during my usual daily thoughts(talking to myself Tongue), read about somewhere or discussed it in real life with some monkey that looks alot like a human.

Whenever I read the title that interests me(which rarely happens) and see whats in there, I get bored alot and disappointed for how much the topic is overly talked about and how much the subject is poorly written and discussed , and I feel that I can't add much, Because I think what i'm going to say is not very special or even different from what most of the others that saw that post would say or thought about .

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)
