FYI, nuclear missles are considerably more powerful than nuclear bombs.

Against cities, you're going to need more than one nuke to reduce to to where you can take it easily - however, the real power of nukes is to not only weaken cities, but to also destroy surrounding forces. When I launch a nuclear attack, I usually hit as many cities as I am able to in the first salvo - oftentimes that cripples the enemy military to the point where I can take their cities at my leisure.

Ahh I didn't know that missiles were that different. I only used bombs. I think I only just discovered rocketry upon winning the game.

Also I'm not sure they were using a bomb shelter, I nuked 3 cities and they all dropped around the same amount of health. Maybe they were all using shelters but I doubt it.

Probably not. I've always had to hit cities 3-4 times at least to beat them down. I usually try to stockpile as many nukes as my uranium supply will allow and hit them all at once, with the idea that if it's not enough, I'll buy more on the next turn and hit them again, or immediately move in with ground or naval forces.

Nukes aren't an "I win" button, but they're very powerful game enders. Once I start launching, the game is usually over very quickly.

Oddly, I've never been nuked by an AI civ, though I've seen them nuke each other several times.

Kind of makes sense when I think about it but it really pissed me off because most of my navy was made up of subs and nuclear subs. I launched my first assault to find that half my navy was ineffective Facepalm The thing that made it worse was that the Egyptians didn't even use a navy! There wasn't a single ship I had to destroy. I had about 8/9 subs and they all just sat there.

No, they can't, though nuclear subs can use missiles and nuclear missiles. Odd that they have a perk to increase attack strength against land units - I wonder if that's against embarked units, or only when using missiles. I suspect the former.

Subs rock, but their utility is diminished if you have overwhelming naval superiority. If that happens, park one or two outside each of the enemy ports and destroy anything they put to sea (which they will absolutely do).

Maybe on certain difficulties they don't do it? I know that the Egyptians in my game had built the manhattan project, the only real reason I went for them was because I was worried of being nuked myself. That and they seemed to be going for a scientific victory by building the apollo program.

In my experience, by the time you are able to produce them, it's all over but the shouting anyway. Uranium is often scarce enough that I won't waste it building death robots, as tanks are powerful enough used in conjunction with ranged units, aircraft, and nukes.

They are the most powerful ground unit in the game, but IMHO, not powerful enough to justify tying up 2 uranium to keep them on the map.

I would assume that the nuclear missiles and giant death robots are to put an end to the war anyway. Not something you wait to start a war with.

I could see the value of building nukes before an attack. Death Robots are just end game fuck it why not sort of units.

Pretty much, yeah. In the late stages of a game, I'll open with nukes, because fuck you, that's why.

Is this game worth it? It's age of empires style? will it work for windows 7 on a laptop sony vaio?
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

Yes. More or less. Probably - I know someone who plays it on about the most low end laptop possible (pentium processor with integrated graphics and 2 or 4 gig of memory).

Its turn based rather than real time like AOE.

I still don't know what sort of map to try out. I was looking at the set up screen and there's a ton more that I didn't even realise existed. The Terra map looks pretty cool and the kind of map I'd like to play, but I don't like the idea of all the factions starting on one side of the world. The Earth map would just annoy the OCD in me because the factions would all be in the wrong place compared to the real Earth. Continents seems okay but the land masses seem a little plain. Small continents? I like the idea but I'm not sure if they'd be too small. Pangaea, definitely not. Archipelago? I like navy battles but I'm not sure I like the idea of it being the be all and end all of the game.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions....
