While the action is a crime, the emotion itself qualifies for immorality.

Really? I'd say morality is behavior based on reason. Don't steal, that's moral. Want to steal? That a test. Steal? That's failure and immoral.

What's the difference between ethical and moral then?

If you must. Ethical is behavior. Moral is the standard. But I don't believe in thought crimes or moral lapses either.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

I must, I must. I'm just asking because I always associated ethical with a more reasoned approach, and morality with a more dogmatic one. But you seem to say that behavior is ethical if it complies to the moral standard?

I don't care whether you consider ethics or morality the standard. What I care about is whether you consider behavior in conformance to the standard definitive or whether mere thoughts are a violation. I think behavior is the ONLY standard.

Alex,
That was awesome! Thanks for sharing the video. It wouldn't be easy describing the 'freude' I felt listening to that. Must be my German descent. Smile Now, if we could just get Germany to sing everything...
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

It is based on reason - you have to rationally decide which emotions are moral or immoral.

Schiller's original poem and also Beethoven's ideas were all about seeing humanity as a whole, not about being German or not. Quoth Schiller:

Joy, beautiful sparkle of god,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter, fire-drunk,
Heavenly one, your shrine.
Your magics bind again
What custom has strictly parted.
All men(*) become brothers
Where your tender wing lingers.

That's the antithesis of tribalism, and it's from 1808 no less, a time when the nationalists were the progressive movement. And of course, Beethoven moved to Vienna pretty quickly because that's where it was at back then. Smile

(*) In the original it's alle Menschen, i.e. all of humankind
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psalm 14, KJV revised edition

If the Baptwits have been picketing the local brothel and calling for God to smite that den of inequity, and 2 weeks later lightning strikes their church and burns it to the ground, I'm thinking we are going to have quite a celebratory thread here.

Other hypothetical items that would be well received:

autopsy on Fred Phelps shows raging case of rectal gonorrhea

Rush Limbaugh divorces bride #4 and marries #5 while castigating immoral gays for corrupting marriage

Pat Robertson chokes to death on a gold coin

Catholic Bishop gang raped in prison while serving term for pedophilia

A fair source of mirth if noone was hurt..

I have no opinion

It's funny cause it's true!

Naaah... naaah

Would not be well-received at all - i hope. Don't make atheists look bad.

RLs probably isn't too funny to bride #4. (although a 7 figure settlement would mitigate it quite a bit)
