Westboro hits my town
http://www.wvec.com/news/Controversial-c...92847.html
Luckily the amount of counter protesters exceeded theirs at some venues and there was no violence. I'm glad the children at theese schools didn't get the message. I wish I had caught this before not after this weekend. "There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
"A lot of people are unwilling to acknowledge anything that contradicts their worldview. So telling them that it's false doesn't necessarily slow them down. That's how urban legends get started for the most case. Like the woman who supposedly put her poodle in the microwave to dry it off. And it exploded." David Mikkelson (snopes) |

RE: Westboro hits my town
It hit Boston a few months ago.
The best thing, though, was that counter protest where people made signs about anything. http://www.asylum.com/2010/01/29/westbor...e-twitter/

Soooooooo
These people have nothing better or more involved to occupy their minds with?? Haven't they heard of Rubics Cubes?? Religion is designed to keep you safe, NOT make you think. Science is designed to make you think, NOT make you safe. |

Quote:WBC members are thoughtless sheep guided by an idiot. But, nonetheless, they are fine xtians! Quote:It is often argued that religion is valuable because it makes men good, but even if this were true it would not be a proof that religion is true. That would be an extension of pragmatism beyond endurance. Santa Claus makes children good in precisely the same way, and yet no one would argue seriously that the fact proves his existence. The defense of religion is full of such logical imbecilities. - H. L. Mencken |

I'd like to give Christians a bit more credit than that.

(2nd March 2010 16:10)KichigaiNeko Wrote: SooooooooWell, I remember when Louis Theroux made his documentary, and if memory serves, they said that they gladly spent upwards of 1/5 of $1 million every year on plane fare to travel across the country for 45 minute pickets with almost everybody who comes across them finding them repugnant. I don't know where the money comes from either. For the record, in the documentary, not only did they come to my home town, but I actually drive past the space they picketed at no less than once a week. By the way, if Addicted to Hate is an accurate source of info on Fred Phelps' past, it appears that, considering that he spent much of his life with a family as an abusive asshole, I would have to say that their rabid, Maldororian misanthropy actually is a step up. ![]() |
