Damn, the Monarchy of Saudi Arabia are onto us!

Quote:The new laws have largely been brought in to combat the growing number of Saudis travelling to take part in the civil war in Syria, who have previously returned with newfound training and ideas about overthrowing the monarchy.

Article fails to explain what Atheists would have to do with a religious movement. Yeah, don't feed us bullshit... King Abdullah doesn't like dissent. It's as black an white as that.

Boggles the mind doesn't it why would atheists give 2 fucks about religion anyways??? or better yet lead a religious movement when we are already pushing for logic and reasoning.

It's make belief petro state that happen to include Mecca, run by and for sybaritic fat cats who can neither do anything to keep their subjects from being radicalized, nor wish to be lynched in the aftermath. So what do you expect them to do?

Defect. If they were willing to give up everything and move to a western country, and denounce their theocracy, I am sure they could get protection. It wouldn't take all of the family, just one near or at the top.

A public denunciation would go a long way into putting cracks in their system. The only reason one would not want that system to collapse currently is that far too much of east is unstable.

The cracks are already showing in any case. It took them calling atheists terrorists because word has gotten back that women have rights and should not be treated like property. That is not the type of genie you can put back in the bottle.

Um no, banning books is what Hitler did, what North Korea does, what Saudi Arabia does.

We have our own voices to push humans to see those books for what they are. But banning them to me would be no less fascist than when the Taliban blew up the Buddhist statues.

You keep them around, not because you agree with it, you keep them around so you can use those same books to counter what they say. Really no different than the Holocaust Museum doesn't sensor the reality of what happened to Jews.

It is never good to bury history. You are doomed to repeat it if you don't remember it. Reality should never be sugar coated or swept under the rug.

Mien Kampf is still printed for historical reasons. It should not be used as a playbook though, but as a history as what bad logic and bigotry can lead to.

If you want to get them to stop, write them a PM I am sure they have a FB page. Even if they do not, they will be aware of those who find it objectionable. It will not allow the buyers to hide behind it even if they continue to print it.

Yes I get that, but what are you going to do? Attitudes do not change well with sudden force. IE the pro sports players who supported the NFL player for hitting his kid with a switch. There are plenty of liberals who belt their kids or use tree switches to punish them. I don't think you can suddenly get millions of parents to suddenly stop.

You have people who grow up saying a good swat will keep a kid in their place, and you have others who say to never do it.

Most of both sides still agree that simply beating the shit out of a kid is not ok. I think if you do things right you don't ever have to do that. But I am not going to go on a killing spree to stop it either.

I certainly would not agree that religious based punishment as an excuse, even if it is a belt on the ass is a good excuse, just like I find dietary demands out of a holy book absurd.

Go after them if you wish, and you should for religious reasons, but a forceful sudden ban on this book simply will not work in reality. Call them out, but think long term. Humans unfortunately don't like sudden change.

In all seriousness, I hate male bravado in that those who don't fight should not have a voice? Humans are diverse and not everyone is mentally fit to fight. I find it absurd to think you can mold everyone to fit a battlefield. Why would you want somebody not mentally fit there?

I think it is also brave to admit your limits. Even in the past on my jobs, I have hated it when I have told my boss "You think this is my first job? If I tell you I cant do something, I am not being a coward, I am simply saying it would not be a good idea for me to do that".

I hate that mantra "You can do anything". No, you can try, yes, but everyone has different things they can do and other things the cannot do and should not do. And the truth is some men are not mentally fit for a battlefield. It does not make them cowards.

You get so many soldiers coming back with PTSD which means you didn't do enough to prepare them in the first place, and nothing for them while they were there.

If I was mentally strong enough to run a unit, I would not want anyone there that could not handle it. It is bad enough humans go to war, but if you have to defend yourself, just like any other job, you want someone there that can do it.
