What's missing on this thread is whether Alaska Airlines even fired the guy. Airlines are a type of company that generally does things by the book. Landing that plane cost a lot of money so I won't be surprised if it costs him his job. But he will have access to a formal termination procedure and appeal. And get severance pay if he's been there long enough. A majority of blue-collar workers don't have these benefits anymore.
The real problem with laissez-faire capitalism is that its stability must predicate on unlimited economic growth. But we're gonna have bosses one way or another and bosses will always be privileged, living better than others do, sometimes even living while others die. It's called "famine never reaches the rulers" and held true long before the private property state came into being.

We have a situation where there is a capitalistic tide lifting all boats.

As Brian is a regular poster, he probably has a computer - something that used to be a luxury item. If you look at what people have now compared to forty years ago, rather than looking at gaps, it seems that trickle down is working quite well.
And if you still don't think you have enough - work harder. I used to deliver newspapers at 3am, open a convenience store at 6am, and went to college on Saturdays. Now I have a 6-figure position. And it's still work. I'm in taxes, and just finished 3 months of 66-hour weeks.
If you want more stuff, Brian, work hard and work smart. THat's the recipe for success, and it isn't a secret.

And on the other hand, if you're taking money to do a job, do your sleeping at home. I work sixty hours a week and wouldn't dream of sleeping on the job, because giving my employer less than fair value isn't right.

That depends on whether you are paid for the quality, timeliness and value of your service, or the time you put into work. If your are paid by the hours worked, it would be immoral of you to cheat your employer by sleeping when drawing pay for nominally working. But if you are paid for the work and not the hour, then you should have the authority to judge how best to provide the agreed upon service, including whether you should take a nap to clear your mind.

I agree with this general consideration, but can't make it work for the scenario in the OP. Even if I assume the baggage handler were paid per plane load and it was permissible to nap between flight preps, the choice of nap location would be enough for me to shitcan this idiot.
