My Intro...

RE: My Intro...
I am glad to hear of your story, there are not too many people who can break-away from the religious mindset on their own. I hope you'll find lots of like minded friends here including me.

WELCOME Smile

RE: My Intro...
Heya welcome aboard, nice to meet you Smile Thank you for telling us your story.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, that is an excellent analysis. Congrats to coming to all that on your own! That is the crucial point, the total non sequitur of "some sort of God" to "the character in my favourite story book". People make that jump without even realising it sometimes I think, because they are so heavily indoctrinated that they just can't think otherwise. If people stopped at the former, things would be so much better. People don't realize how much they sound like a kid stamping their feet and claiming Santa really is real, while waving their Santa story book about. They can't see it; I wish we could pull them out of their bubble for 5 minutes so they could look at themselves.

Anyhow, don't worry about those limitations you gave, that's no problem at all Smile It's a very casual friendly community, and we'll be happy with whatever you want to do. My advice is make use of the "Today's posts" and "My posts" at the top of the screen. I use these two almost exclusively, to find out which topics are recently active, and where there are replies to ones I've been involved in, respectively. In this way I rarely go through the actual forum structure unless I'm creating a new topic myself.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and enjoy the forum Smile

Welcome again, that's quite a number of insights to come up with on your own! I hope you enjoy it here.Indeed, people here vary greatly in how much they post, and your requests concerning privacy are pretty standard, so no worries there

Cheers

Welcome aboard!
Nice intro... no one will mess with your lack of belief, now! Tongue

As for photos, don't worry, they're not mandatory... you share what you want.
Facebook, twitter, etc... tons of people refuse to use them... others just want them to keep tabs on actual personal friends and family... others just gather as much FB friends as possible... to each his own...

Meeting in real life?! HAHAHA, only if you come to Portugal! Wink And NO, I'm not paying!

Oh, thanks so much for the tips, I can really use that.

I was also wondering how to upload an avatar?  It's probably really simple, and I'm just looking right past it!!

RE: My Intro...
Thanks Everyone for the warm welcome. Sorry if my intro ran a bit long, I was almost falling asleep last night when I wrote it. Good to know that privacy disclaimers are not really needed here...I wasn't sure, you never know! I appreciate the multiple replies and I'm really looking forward to taking part, here!

Cheers!! Big Grin

I certainly respect your limits. Hopefully you've become comfortable in here, and will continue to be so.

Oh, well-spotted!

actually,

I am NOT a francophone,
but I AM a francoPHILE....I love all things French...and especially French-Canadian.

I am not yet fluent in the language, myself, but I'm working on it.

I am not from Montreal, or living in Montreal, but I do love the city very much...hence the handle...and I'm a Habs fan, of course.

Certainly I am getting the feeling that limits are respected, here, and that is reassuring...thanks again for the welcome!!  Big Grin

Cheers and a belated welcome from another colony ...Australia...
This is the most easy going and respectful site on the net.

The simple trick is to be honest with yourself.
What the religios don't "get" is that all they have to say is "I believe in god" and you know what? What can we say? No arguments there.
It's when they get creative and try to distort "our" reality to suit "their" fantasy world where things get weird.
In all honesty, We all sound like broken records responding back to theists. How many possible ways can you reinvent and twist a story and try to sell it as a new concept? You will hear the word " fallacy" here quite a lot. We have the easy job... just being honest and using simple logic. I do feel for the theists sometimes though.
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.
