Are all atheists this ill-informed about religion?

I stopped at question number two. This test seems designed to point out the contradictions in the Bible. We learned in Sunday school that Simon carried Jesus' cross, but this test points to a verse that contradicts that. Couldn't have done a better job myself.

Impossible! There are no contradictions in the bible!

The quiz is absolutely brilliant.  There is no way to get any score other than 0, no matter how well you know your Bible.  It's too bad that most folks will find it frustrating, instead of actually testing the test . . . answering one way for the first answers, and then the opposite.

It is brilliant in that every question has contradictory answers depending on which Bible verse you hang your hat on.

Oh, that's right. Drat.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

Sort of.  Lutherans have a liturgy, but they've eliminated most sacraments (or at least declared them not to be sacraments) and have gotten rid of most church tradition in favor of the bible.  Of course they've since merged with and not ordain their clergy, which they didn't do before.  Oh and there are at least four different brands of Lutheran.  Fun, fun, fun. And yes, unlike the Catholics they are faith only not works and once saved always saved.

But when the laughter dies down, you're left with a troubling realization: There actually is a huge pool of people on this planet who call themselves atheists and post on the internet, but are less familiar with theism than toddlers with the inside of a quantum mechanics textbook.

Where does one go for actually informed atheistic critiques of religion? I'm feeling my brain atrophy after reading some of the threads here.

I'm a little late to this thread, so excuse me if someone else made these points.

First of all, in polls, it turns out that atheists are more knowledgeable of theism than many theists.

Like this one

I am constantly shocked when debating Christians, that don't know about Yahweh condoning slavery, killing women who are not virgins on their wedding night, sending 42 bears to slaughter some youths for taunting a bald prophet, and many more ridiculous (and I should add, immoral) verses.

But here's the thing, until the existence of a god is demonstrated, the truthfulness and accuracy of any of the 1000's of various religions, is a nonstarter.

There is not a single religious text that can get you to, 'therefore god exists'.

Here's a question for you.

Is it only a 'troubling realization' to you when atheists are uninformed about your religion, or all the 1000's of others, too?

How informed are you, about Hinduism say, compared to the average atheist?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

And the Lutherans have backed off of Luther himself to a degree, so it's possible Martin Luther would no longer be a Lutheran today if he 'stuck to his guns' about everything he went on about back in the day.
