Atheism has been around as long as people have been claiming a god or gods exist.
The Carvka school in 6th century BCE India, was a blatantly atheistic philosophy, that taught general skepticism and critical thinking. Some early sects of Jainism from about 300 years earlier were also atheistic.
They must have been acting out against Shiva, right?

Your working knowledge or basic logic and critical thinking seem to be a bit, lacking shall we say.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
