It doesn't have to be. Those threads about damned whatevers have a ton of news stories about people's bad actions that have nothing to do with their religion.

There are a lot of stories that get posted on there where religion wasn't a motive at all. I pointed this out once in one of the threads.

A better word than belief would have been faith.
