Shia & Sunna: Why I don't believe

RE: Shia & Sunna: Why I don't believe
I suck at these threads, cause as soon as I see the "book" quoted I know there are at least 20 people that will go to town on refuting it. Thus I've learned... I'm lazy.

Perhaps MysticKnight can explain why the Ishmali Severers basically went extinct and we are now left with the Jafahri Twelvers. It sounds like, correct me if I'm wrong, people couldn't agree on how many Imams there were meant to be. If I recall, Severers believe Medhi came at Imam number seven.

Just to elaborate on my post, Ishmalis in general believe in a different amount of Imams. There was a split in the Shias hundreds of years ago and it created the Ishmalis. I wonder where the Zaidis fit into all of this. I really ought to do more research. But MysticKnight is a person of knowledge so I'm sure that they provide clarity.

This is the problem with ALL religions worldwide of every label. Every umbrella label has sub sects that don't agree on how to interpret the umbrella label. There is not one religion that does not have competing sub sects.

Sounds like the mooslim religion is just like Christianity. I wonder who ripped off who.

Wow, I have just spent an inordinate amount of time reading this thread (well, to be honest, I didn't read through all of Mystic's verbal spaghetti).

It's amusing to see the difference between Mystic's and Atlas's approach to threads about Islam , compared to their approach on threads about the existence of Gods / atheism etc.

On threads where atheists question Mystic's and Atlas's fundamental reasoning, and point out obvious flaws at all junctures, they refuse to engage or concede anything - they just hop on to the next point, even if it's not such a leap to say "oh sorry guys, you got me!".

On threads about Islam, they can both go on and on and on and on, arguing about every little detail, getting exasperated with each other for not conceding any obvious point. Neither can see the irony of this.

I simply can't imagine what it must be like to see and experience the entire world through the thick lens and language of a single ancient book. What a waste of a life. There's so much out there - so much variety, wonder, exciting stuff, funny stuff, dangerous stuff, boring stuff, amazing stuff on this planet. They should stop this verbal nonsense, close their inerrant book, put it in a drawer, give their kafir mates a hug, and get on with life.

But the truth cannot be any close to this, than water's closeness to acid.

Only ignorant people believe that, since everyone having the least bit of interest and knowledge know differently. Islam has at least as many schisms as christianity. Doesn't make it more believable in my book, but I try to look at who's involved in certain actions. Something the Western politicians would be well advised to do also before considering any intervention. In fact, it's like they're dropping their pants on purpose at any given opportunity, since even a layman like me can tell the difference between the different groups in different regions. Which makes the Western approach seem even stupider as it is on it's surface.

Considering Christianity was around before, shouldn't take a slide rule. But even the Jewish God Yahweh was lesser god in the divine family of the Canaanite polytheism
