Well, they tried to nominate Huckabee and Santorum before and they couldn't get that done. And there are fewer of them now. The old bastards die and there are few young evangelicals to take their place. I think their ship may have sailed.

I hope you're right, but I think you may have underestimated the backlash of the undercurrent of the collapse of Christianity-derived White Supremacy (even though no one would call it that, among those who benefit from its legacy) in the wake of the election of our first black president, and the GOP drumbeat that encourages their fears of "losing the country", their values, etc. 

They are becoming afraid and feeling persecuted in their righteousness. And I fear what may result. I hope I am wrong in what I see.

Well they are changing. The problem is, they don't know what direction to go. They're definitely off on the wrong tangent with Trump and most of the establishment knows that. As to what they do about it...

I love how people bitch, but don't offer up a replacement. To be fair, both sides do this. 

You get idiots in all camps who want to scrap the system, but have no fucking clue about long term history.

It is simple evolution, that when you stress out enough of a population, and that population, maybe not immediately, but will seek the first opportunity to topple that power. That change can go from a closed society, or to an open society and revolutions in human history have gone BOTH WAYS.

And simply toppling a government doesn't fix things. You create a power vacuum, maybe at first, different groups will stand together to do that, but then once the power is gone, those different groups compete, and there is never a guarantee that your ideas will end up being that dominate power that arises out of the ashes.

Yes politics does SUCK, but what is the solution? A one party fascist state? A dictatorship? 

The west isn't perfect, and even in the west we have abuse of power, but at least in the west we have much more control and power as voters. But that only works when WE vote. No, it is not perfect, life is never perfect, and political ideology is bullshit to me, because it does the same thing religion does, it sets up people to chase utopias. But at least with the west you have a more open society where you can make the attempt to change things.

Yes the sausage making sucks, but way better than the politics of Saudi Arabia, North Korea and Cuba.

The REAL problem is global, not just one nation. Global corporatism. Not enough humans realize that both the open west, and more closed societies like Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, China, just like America, all ALL ALL ALL have global investments in fuel and financial and weapons.

The more the average citizens of the world face and accept this, the more we can force all powers to deal through diplomacy, not war. It is fucking disgusting to me that 62 individual uber billionaires have the combined wealth of 3.5 billion humans. THAT is the real problem.

I'm talking about the Republican voter base changing, not the establishment itself. They can't seem to get it through their heads that their same old shit isn't selling anymore. That's why their voters are looking at all these fringe candidates. Of course the establishment has become badly fractured so they can't even agree on any new direction to move in. Basically, the Republican party is a total wreck right now. If they don't get their act together soon, they may die out altogether. Perhaps the relatively sane faction will form a new party led by Ryan.
