Send a baloon in the upper atmosphere and use the polar ice to convert cosmic rays into radio. It's ingenious. ICE CUBE beats them all in coolness, of course.

Showing my ignorance. My understanding is that underground detectors are to filter out other particles that may interfere with any readings .... Using the ice sheet as a radio may increase the chance of detecting a neutrino, but won't that also increase the risk of detecting more interference from other particles?

Indeed. The cool thing is that they wait for Neutrinos to produce a coherent radio wave pulse coming out of the ice - no other particles can travel far through the ice to produce such an interaction - so, the source of the radio signal deep in the ice is basically shielded.

Note the radio receiver horns on the payload which look like a PA system.

Isn't this just lovely? And it's cheap as dirt compared to other experiments.

Thanks, don't you just love science Smile I presume in the future they could (again pondering through ignorance) maybe use this system for other experiments ..... assuming they can differentiate the depth of the signals discover other particles or what they are doing?

I think other spin offs from this new technique will follow Smile

There's a photo of the sun taken at night.Through the earth. Unbelievable.
I'll post it tonight.

@OP

Art Bell is not a scientist, nor do scientists join his show.

Anyone fucking up the difference between collaborate and corroborate is probably full of shit.

Why should anyone take it seriously?

You mean the SuperK image of the sun in neutrino "light"? I've shown it in public talks, it's crazy!

Here comes the sun, as recorded in a deep underground tunnel.
