(August 7, 2010 at 11:36 am)Paul the Human Wrote: Welcome, Decsel. I was just browsing the "Official Church of Satan" website to try to get a feel for what Satanism actually is. All in all, based on very limited and superficial information, it seems to be a hedonistic philosophy that stands in direct (and literal) opposition to Christianity (or Catholicism specifically). What I couldn't quite figure out from the info on the site is whether or not they claim the actual existence of the beings known as 'God' and 'Satan'. It seems more like they believe that 'Satan' is simply a concept that embodies the preferred 'way of life', which is the exact opposite of that of Catholics. If that is the case, why bother putting the mythological 'Satan' into the mix at all?

Hi Paul,

I would just like to explain why, Satan.
First off all Satan is Hebrew for Adversary.

Just say you have read the LOTR books and you think that Sam is an extremely admirable char, that's what most Satanists see in Satan according to the bible (if you look at it as a fictional book)

He is the right hand of god that rose up against a cruel dictatorship that was God. I mostly get my admiration for the Char Satan through the epic poem; " Paradise Lost" Witch follows Satan when he is convincing Eve to take the apple from the tree. He actually doubts doing it because of his compassion toward humanity. In the end his Hate for god wins and he decides to go on with His plan to destroy gods Perfect creation; Man.
The funny thing is that god, being all knowing, already knew that Satan would rise against him, to convince Eve to eat the apple, that makes Adam eat the apple, that condemned humanity to original sin.
In my eyes, God actually is the bad guy in the bible as he killed an estimated; 33 million people. And Satan only killing 10. Now killing 10 people is not a good thing to do. But 33 million, thats ****ing ridiculous.

That was my explanation up until now.

Cheers,
Declan

Welkom op het forum Decsel,

Can't say I agree with the satan part, but hey, whatever floats your boats I suppose. What part of the Netherlands are you from? I'm from the Rotterdam area.

Okay. Thanks for the explanation, Descel. I completely understand and agree that the 'God' character is the bad guy in the bible (particularly the OT). I'm more inclined to let fictional characters be fictional, myself, but I understand basing a philosophy on one, I suppose. Seems unnecessary to me, but we all handle things our own way. Once again... welcome to AF!

Welcome and glad to have you. Feel free to jump into a convesation as new perspective is always welcome.
